Success stories are fun to tell, especially in the Big Country. Once upon a time, Abilene was the largest population center in Texas without any federally qualified health care (FQHC). It was a medical quandary for those on Medicaid and the underinsured. Every city with a population in excess of 100,000 had an FQHC except for Abilene.

Times have changed. Today, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is an integral part of the region’s health care industry. Through collaboration with city officials and community leaders, we’ve developed an economic and academic model promoting wellness, prevention and in-clinic assessments. Our community partnerships with Abilene Regional Medical Center, Hendrick Health System and more than 50 community pharmacies demonstrate our commitment to making an impact on the quality of health care, education and research in the region.

Our schools provide hands-on learning and help students gain the practical experience they need for real-world success — and that’s a big deal for the Big Country.

But the story doesn’t end there. We’re building on this success for a better tomorrow — a happily ever after for the Big Country and beyond.
